My dad's new Saab has an graphical OLED display for displaying radio information, setting the time and date of the clock. It even lets you choose between 12/24h time and MMDD/DDMM date formats. There are not, however, any places on the car that the date is displayed.

Update: minor clarification. It shows you the date enough to set it, but nowhere does it passively display it.

Why does that strike you as odd? Knowing your date format preference is a key piece of data in the personality profile your car makes of. How else could it figure out, say, at what frequency of turning the seat warmer on and off you will be most disconcerted?

That would explain the "Keirsey" button. I get it now.

Perhaps it automatically updates the time based on DST. The date formats switch is still odd, though.

Is there a higher trim level which displays more on the screen? Bluetooth phone call support, GPS, etc? It's possible that one of those other functions uses the date format and they neglected to remove the setting.

Could be. There's a lot of stuff that says "Not available in US/CA" in the manual - stuff that isn't disabled in the UI. There's even a button on the dash that is labeled with that in the manual.

I love that your first update in a gazillion years is this. Carry on.

If by that you mean "a month". I do plan on posting more often, I think I just need to get into the habit of it.
